P.S.A.T. Test
The Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test/National Merit
Scholarship Qualifying Test, better know as the P.S.A.T./N.M.S.Q.T.,
is the preliminary S.A.T. test that is given every year
at HRVHS to college-bound juniors and sophomores. This test
not only helps prepare students for their S.A.T at the end
of their junior year and during the fall of their senior
year, but also qualifies high scoring juniors nationwide
for the National Merit Scholarship.
This year the test will be administered on
Saturday, October 21, from 8:00 a.m. until approximately
11:00 – 11:15 a.m. Because this test will be the last
opportunity for juniors to take it prior to their taking
the S.A.T., they will be given the first opportunity to
sign up. Then sophomores in Advanced English classes, on
a first come, first served basis, will be allowed to sign
up for the remaining slots.
Junior sign-up will begin Tuesday, October
3 through Monday, October 9. Sophomore sign-up will begin
Tuesday, October 10 and will conclude Tuesday, October 17.
All juniors and sophomores wishing to take this test need
to be signed up by the deadline of 3:30, October 17. Students
will sign up by paying the $14 fee to Bob Sullivan, guidance
counselor, in the guidance office. All checks should be
addressed to Hood River Valley High School and all cash
payments be made in the exact amount, as there will be no
money available for making change. At time of sign-up, students
will be issued a Student Bulletin, a booklet that contains
test information, a practice exam, and other valuable, relevant
information.
Students will be notified of their testing
site by locating the appropriate F Wing classroom from a
list on the guidance office door on Thursday and Friday,
October 19 and 20.
Results of the test will be handed out in
December, prior to the winter break.
Because of the nature of this test being normed
for sophomores and juniors, the College Board does not recommend
anyone in younger grades taking it. THEREFORE, WE WILL NOT
BE OFFERING THE P.S.A.T. TO NINTH GRADERS.
