Dear May Street Families,
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Susan Henness, and I am your new principal. Being at May Street is a dream come true for me, and I can’t wait for school to begin! I have twenty-two years of teaching/education experience. I was a classroom teacher in grades K-5 for 11 years, was the Education Coordinator at Head Start, worked as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Region 9 Education Service District, and served as interim principal in South Wasco Co. School District. Before coming to May Street, I had the opportunity to be the vice principal at Hood River Middle School.
The 2006-2007 school year at May Street promises to be exciting, fun, and extremely educational. There have been very few changes in staff this year. We have a new fifth grade teacher, Heidi Burns. Heidi has 15 years of teaching experience, and she brings a lot of curriculum and instruction support to the team. There will also be two new English Language Instructional Assistants. They will be hired as soon as possible. We “new folks” are joining a great team at May Street, and I am truly honored to be working with such a professional staff.
My goals for May Street are to maintain the friendly, community school atmosphere where everyone is welcome, everyone is learning, and everyone is able to work to their potential. If you have questions, comments, concerns, or just want to visit, my door is always open. Please stop by and chat. We can’t be successful at May Street without your support and honest communication.
Now, for the really big news—May Street’s start and ending times have changed.
School will begin at 8:05 A.M and end at 2:20 P.M.
I will be sending out monthly newsletters, so please be checking your students’ backpacks for updates on information. In the mean time, again, please call or stop by with all of your questions. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Susan K Henness Principal
