Mid Valley utilizes a newsletter to send home information to parents. It is sent home on Fridays with the students and is also available in the school lobby. Current school and community events are publicized in both English and Spanish. The deadline for submission of information to the newsletter is Wednesday afternoon. All information is submitted to the principal for review and acceptance.

McTeacher’s Night
What a night it was. Thanks to all of you who helped the school by
joining us for our McTeachers Night at McDonalds last week. It was a huge
success and lots of fun. Check out the pictures in the front hall next time you
are in the school. We earned over $800. The money will be used to pay for 50+
students to attend a Trailblazer game at the end of November as part of our
reward program for good behavior.

To support our 3 B behavior program students are given Cougar
Coupons. They save their coupons and trade them for a variety of special
activities and privileges. Some of the options include:
Eating at a special lunch table
Joining the monthly Ice Cream Social
Going out to lunch with the principal

Going to the Trailblazer game Nov. 28th
No Homework for the day

Please talk to your kids about the program and see what they are doing to help be safe, responsible, and respectful and what they plan to spend their coupons on.
Prechool
A survey is going home today to find out if there is interest in
starting a Community Ed. sponsored preschool in Odell. The cost would be about
$75
per month for 2 half days a week and $100 a month for 3 half days a week. Please return the survey if you are interested.
Curriculum Night
Our Fall Curriculum Night is coming up next week. On October 25th,
families are invited to join us for a fun, informative evening. Dinner will be
served from 5:00 – 5:45 in the cafeteria and then the kids will go to the gym
for pumpkin painting and a movie. Parents will have the opportunity to choose
from 16 different session ranging from helping support your child in reading and
math to learning to using the Mid Valley website, to what to do when your child
is driving you crazy. Each session will run 45 minutes. Community resource
booths will be set up around the school from 5 – 7:30.
Halloween
We will be having our yearly Serpentine Parade on Halloween at 1pm.
Kids may bring costumes to change into for the parade. Parents and families are
welcome to join us as the kids wind through the school in costume. Please remind
kids that toy guns, swords, or other weapons need to be left at home.
Planning For The Future
We are growing and schools are getting crowded and old. The district
is looking at a number of options for how to provide for new space, how to
improve our building and how to continue providing a quality educational program
. On November 5th, at 2:30 the HRCDS Superintendent , Pat Evenson-Brady, will be
at Mid Valley to meet with the SITE Council, Local Committee and any interested
parents to discuss the options. She will also be doing 2 sessions as part of the
curriculum carnival. These are chances to let us know how you feel about the
future of our schools, so please try to attend one of these meetings.

For information of school closures in the morning, tune to radio
stations KIHR AM 1340 or Tierra 95.1 or call 386 -1336 or 354-1691 before 7am
for a recorded message. Remember that you can sign up for FLASH notification to
your email or phone by going to the Hood River Count web site,
www.hoodriver.k12.or.us.
If schools are on a 1 hour late start then students may be dropped off at 8am, they can go to class at 8:30 and school starts at 8:50. If it is a 2 hour delay then kids may be dropped off at 9, they go to class at 9:30 and school starts at 9:50.
Winter programs
This year the K-2 program is on December 4th and the program for
grades 3-5 is on December 11th. Both programs start at 7 pm and the kids who are
performing need to be in their
classroom by 6:45. Please plan on
joining us for these fun evenings.
Santa Sale
Mid Valley PTO is sponsoring a Santa Store this year. Small gifts
ranging in price from $1 to $20 will be available for kids to purchase the week
of December 10th. This is an easy way to allow kids to do their Holiday
shopping. Each class will have a time to go to the Holiday Store, which will be
set up in room 1, and make a list to take home to parents.
Parents can then decide what they want kids to buy. Kids will go back to the store later in the week and take their purchases. The store will also be open before and after school if parents want to come by.
Food and Stuffed Animal
Drive
Our annual canned food and stuffed animal drive will run from
December 3rd to December 14th. Last year we collected almost 2000 food items and
over 200 new stuffed animals. The food goes to local agencies to help Hood River
families and the stuffed animals go to Providence Hood River Hospital and the
Hood River Fire Department. . Starbucks partners with us on this activity
and provides the classroom with the most combined items a hot chocolate party
when they return to school. Please encourage you kids to help less fortunate
families in our community by bringing canned or packaged food or a stuffed
animal to school.
PTO
Our next PTO meeting will be December 5th at 6:30. Please join us as
we plan for our winter activities, including skating, which begins in January.
100 Book Club
The 100 Book Club is very active these
days and we have had eight students that reach 100 already. They are Sydney
Endow, Cassandra Chavez, Liliana Magana, Mary Jane Laney, Jasmine Heep, Manuel
Trejo, Samantha Magana, and Vanessa Silva. They will receive their t-shirts as
soon as they are made. This year the winner of the t-shirt contest was 4th
grader Mayra Cordova. The shirt will have a cougar’s face with a bee on his head
and the saying, “Reading makes me purr”. Mayra’s 4th grade class
selected blue as the color of the shirt. We are all anxious to see them on
students who have reached the 100 goal.
Lice
We have recently had several students with lice at Mid Valley. The
children are in different classrooms and this is not unusual. We monitor this
very closely to assure to we don’t get an outbreak as they can easily be spread
from child to child. We periodically screen entire classrooms if we have several
cases in the class or repeated cases. A flyer from the county health department
is going home today to provide you with information on identification and
treatment at home. Any time you discover your child has lice please contact the
school so we can act in this information.

Night
¡Qué noche tuvimos!
Gracias a todos ustedes que ayudaron a la escuela afiliándose a nosotros para
nuestra McTeacher’s Night en McDonald’s la semana pasada. Fue un éxito enorme y
muy divertido. Mire las fotos en el pasillo delantero la próxima vez que usted
visite la escuela. Ganamos más de 800 dólares. El dinero será utilizado para
pagar la asistencia de 50+ estudiantes a un juego de los Trailblazers al final
de Noviembre, como parte de nuestro programa, para recompensar el buen
comportamiento.

¿Ha notado usted todos
los nuevos letreros amarillos en Mid Valley? Bueno se llaman "Las 3Ts". La
primera T se significa Tener Respeto. Un modo de ser respetuoso es ser amable
con otros. Usted también podría ser respetuoso, al no hablar cuando otra gente
esta hablando. La segunda T significa Tener Responsabilidad. ¡Si usted quiere
ser responsable, por qué no devuelve aquel lápiz que "tomó prestado" de su amigo
la semana pasada! Otra manera de ser responsable seria haciendo su trabajo o
trabajos. La última T significa Tener Seguridad. Una manera de demostrar
seguridad es siguiendo las reglas, Usted también podría estar mas seguro al no
hablar con extraños. No nada más ponemos los letreros de las 3Ts para que usted
los mire en la pared. Bien ahora que usted sabe sobre Tres Ts ¿por qué no se
involucra?
Recompensas
Para apoyar nuestro
programa de las 3Ts, a los estudiantes se les da Cupones del Puma. Ellos guardan
sus cupones y los cambian por una variedad de actividades especiales y
privilegios. Algunas opciones incluyen:

Currículo
Nuestra noche de
Currículo de este otoño es la próxima semana. El 25 de octubre, las familias
están invitadas a acompañarnos a una tarde divertida e informativa. La comida
será servida de 5:00 – 5:45 en la cafetería y luego los niños irán al gimnasio
para pintar calabazas y ver una película. Los padres tendrán la oportunidad de
elegir de entre 16 sesiones diferentes, desde como dar apoyo a su niño en
lectura y matemáticas, como usar la pagina Web de Mid Valley y que hacer
cuando su niño lo vuelve loco. Cada sesión será de 45 minutos. Habrá mesas, con
información sobre recursos en la comunidad, en los pasillos de la escuela de 5
– 7:30.
Halloween
Tendremos nuestro
Desfile Serpentino anual del día de Halloween a la 1:00pm. Los niños pueden
traer su traje para cambiarse para el desfile. Los padres y las familias son
bienvenidos para acompañar a sus niños en el desfile con sus trajes. Por favor
recuerde a los niños que las armas de juguete, espadas, u otras armas tienen que
quedarse en casa.
Planeando
para el Futuro
Estamos creciendo y las
escuelas están muy llenas y viejas. El distrito esta mirando varias opciones
en como proporcionar nuevos espacios, como mejorar nuestros edificios y como
seguir proporcionando calidad en el programa educativo. El 5 de noviembre, alas
2:30 la Superintendente del distrito escolar, Pat Evenson-Brady, estará en Mid
Valley para reunirse con el Consejo local, Comité Local y cualquier padre
interesado, para hablar de las opciones. Ella también hará 2 sesiones en el

Este año el programa K-2
es el 4 de Diciembre y el programa para grados 3-5 es el 11 de Diciembre. Ambos
programas comienzan a las 7pm y los niños que están en el programa tienen que
estar en su salón a las 6:45. Por favor planee en acompañarnos en estas tardes
de diversión.
Venta de
Santa
El
PTO de Mid Valley esta patrocinando la Tienda de Santa este año. Los pequeños
regalos que se pueden adquirir desde 1 dólar a 20 dólares estarán disponibles
para niños para comprar la semana del 10 de diciembre. Este es un modo fácil de
permitir que niños hagan sus Compras Festivas. Cada clase tendrá la oportunidad
de ir a la Tienda de Santa, que será establecida en el salón 1, y haremos una
lista para que lleven a
casa a los padres. Los padres pueden decidir entonces lo que ellos quieren que
los niños compren. Los niños volverán a la tienda durante la semana y harán sus
compras. La tienda también estará abierta antes y después de la escuela si los
padres quieren visitarla.
Colecta de
Comida y Muñecos de peluche
Nuestra colecta anual de
alimentos enlatados y muñecos de peluche se llevara acabo del 3 de diciembre al
14 de diciembre. El año pasado recolectamos casi 2000 artículos de alimentos y
más de 200 peluches nuevos. Los alimentos van a agencias locales para ayudar a
familias de Hood River y los peluches van al Hospital Providence de Hood River y
a los Bomberos. Starbucks se unió a nosotros en esta actividad, y proveerá al
salón que tenga más de los artículos una fiesta de chocolate caliente cuando
regresen a la escuela. Por favor anime usted a sus hijos para que ayuden a
familias menos afortunadas en nuestra comunidad y que traigan alimentos
enlatados o alimentos embolsados o un peluche a la escuela.

El Club de
los 100
El Club de los 100 ha
estado muy activo estos días y hemos tenido a ocho estudiantes que llegaron a
los 100. Ellos son Sydney Endow, Cassandra Chávez, Liliana Magaña, Mary Jane
Laney, Jasmine Heep, Manuel Trejo, Samantha Magaña, y Vanessa Silva. Ellos
recibirán sus camisetas tan pronto como estén hechas. Este año el ganador de la
competición de camiseta fue Mayra Córdova del 4to grado. La camisa tendrá la
cara de un puma con una abeja en su cabeza y la frase, "la Lectura me hace
ronronear". La clase de Mayra seleccionó el color azul como el color de la
camisa. Estamos todos ansiosos de verles las camisetas a los estudiantes que ya
han alcanzado los 100.
Piojos
Hemos tenido
recientemente a varios estudiantes con piojos en Mid Valley. Los niños están en
diferentes salones y esto no es muy común. Supervisamos esto muy cuidadosamente
para asegurarnos de no tener un brote, ya que se pueden trasmitir fácilmente de
niño a niño. Periódicamente nosotros revisamos los salones si tenemos varios
casos en la clase o casos repetidos. Un boletín del departamento de salud será
enviado a casa hoy para proveerle la información sobre como identificarlos y
como hacer el tratamiento en casa. En cualquier momento que usted descubra que
su niño tiene piojos por favor póngase en contacto con la escuela para poder
hacer lo necesario.
