Henkle teacher earns National Board CertificationThe White Salmon School District welcomes and congratulates its latest teacher to become a National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs). Henkle 5th/6th grade teacher Sally Wells becomes the sixth White Salmon Valley Schools teacher to earn the prestigious level of professional teaching. Wells joins fellow Henkle teacher Katy Dutra, as well as Columbia teachers Jan Callow, Chris Hipskind, Omar Sankari, Peter Knowles, and Shirlee Jellum who previously earned their National Boards. To earn board certification, all met the rigorous standards set by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Successful completion of the National Board program requires a teacher to spend hours documenting, critiquing, and improving his or her teaching methods and approach in the classroom. In addition to work with students, NBCTs must also demonstrate leadership and innovation among their peers, with parents, and in their communities, and demonstrate strong knowledge of their subjects through successful completion of a series of content area tests. Wells was one of more than 900 new NBCTs across the state of Washington this year. Washington State ranked 3rd among states in the number of new NBCTs this year, and, with the addition of Wells and the rest of the "class of 2008", now has more than 2,500 nationally certified teachers. |
