A Call for Nominations
Special Recognition Award (SRA) is a new program that we began last year (2003-2004). I would like to encourage parents, students, staff or community members to write personal letters of support for any staff member who is deserving of special recognition for whatever reason the writer deems worthy. Letters should be informal in nature and written directly to the staff member. Letters may be written by a parent on behalf of a child who has benefited from spending the year with a particular teacher, or from a community member who has seen the positive outcome of the time and energy spent by a staff member, or from a previous student expressing their heartfelt thanks.
The letter of support for one or more of our staff members should be given or mailed directly to the staff member's administrator. The deadline for receiving letters is Friday, June 10, 2005. Over the course of the summer, the administrators will read each letter in order to select several for consideration of the SRA award. The administrators will then forward the finalists to the superintendent and/or school board for the final selection. One staff member in each building/department (i.e. transportation, maintenance, school, etc.) will receive the SRA for the previous school year.
All letters received will be presented to their recipients at the district all-staff breakfast held prior to the beginning of school. The SRA recipients will have their letters read aloud.
A letter is a powerful symbol. It is a tangible, personal expression that can continue to be a source of support and inspiration long after it is written. Every letter received, not only the letters to the final SRA recipients, will have a meaningful impact on the staff member. We would like you to consider writing a letter of support for a school staff member who has made a significant impact on you or a child in our school system. Letters need not be lengthy. A short note expressing your heartfelt thanks and appreciation for a job well done is priceless. Please consider participating in our SRA program. Last year we received 10-15 letters. Wouldn't it be great if that number doubled or tripled this year?
